A Quiet Year for Technology
Well it has been a very quiet year in the world of Technology, the reason I haven't been producing any newsletters through the middle of the year. At the start of the year we had the promise of new hardware and software, but nothing has emerged as of date save for beta releases to developers and consultants. Browser wars has led to the development of Google's Chrome, a new robust Mozilla Firefox, and Microsoft's Internet Explorer 8 (Beta). Each has it's own unique attributes.
Windows Vista continues to grow in acceptance in the general market place. With the release of Service Pack 1, several Vista performance issues were addressed. The anticipated release of Vista Service Pack 2 early in the new year will address speed and performance improvements as well.
Vista's replacement Windows 7 slated for release in 2010-2011, is said to be a stripped down version of Vista and touts better overall performance. We'll have to wait and see what the new year will bring.
Looking to Purchase a New Computer
I always advise my clients to look for sales and deals (in the form of Hardware and software bundles), which arise due to Christmas and post Christmas buying.
This year due to the economic situation you will find bargains offered for Laptops with Intel Dual Core or Core 2 processors (3Gigabytes of Ram, 250GB Hard Drives, Built in Wireless) for under $700. Desktop Bundles with the same configuration Processor, Memory, Hard Drives including 19" widescreen LCD Monitors and printers, are being sold for under $600.
Ensure your new system comes bundles with Windows Vista Premium and not Windows Vista Basic, better bang for your buck.
Look to brand names like Gateway, Acer, HP, Compaq, Toshiba and Dell for the best deals.
If your a 'build your own' enthusiast then remember to compare your dollar for dollar value to the deals in the market place, you may find something off the shelf that fit perfectly with your needs.
