Training
Classes are two hours per week for three weeks. The regular cost per course is $120.00; all training is onsite in your home or office.
Level 1: Basic Skills (This course is appropriate for the beginner)
Participants will be introduced to the basic skills of using a computer. Course content includes: turning the computer on, using the mouse, familiarizing students with the keyboard layout, starting a program, and the basics of Windows. The student will be introduced to Note Pad and basic computer vocabulary. This is the first step in building your skills for a new adventure!
Level 2: Beyond Basics (Pre-requisite: Level 1 or equivalent.)
Participants will reinforce and build on their basic computer skills. Word Processing functions and menu items will be explored. This course will show you how to create a file and save to a floppy disk. Learn task conventions (such as cut, copy and paste) that apply to many programs while building your skill and increasing your knowledge and abilities.
Level 3: Mouse and More (Pre-requisite: Level 2 or equivalent.)
Having the basic skills, the participants will be introduced to key board shortcuts, mouse tips and tricks, including right-clicking. Your will learn how to use features of MS Word, explore simple graphics and examine computer components. With the completion of this course, the participant should become very comfortable working in the Windows and word processing environments.
Level 4: Files and Folders (Pre-requisite: Level 3 or equivalent.)
In this level, the student should develop an understanding of the Windows hierarchy and learn the file management techniques of creating folders and moving files within them. This course will explain and show the difference between filing items as you create them and organizing your existing files. Specific topics covered include: Moving and copying files; renaming, deleting and restoring files, and retrieving lost files.
Introduction to the Internet: (Pre-requisite Level 2 or equivalent.)
This course is ideal for the first time internet user. The participant will learn some Internet basics and discuss how to choose an Internet service provider and browser.
Intermediate Internet: (Pre-requisite Intro to the Internet/Level 3.)
This course provides an all inclusive overview of the Internet. Essentials will be covered as well as advanced features of search engines, search tips and tricks and downloading files.
Advanced Internet: (Intermediate Internet / Levels 1 through 4.)
What exactly is the Internet and where does it come from? How do I customize my browser? If you are interested in the answers to these questions and the more advanced features of the Internet, then this course is for you! Specialized search engines, downloading mixed files of photos and text, storing and printing email and attachments, and Internet security will be explored.
EMAIL: (Pre-requisite Level 3 or equivalent.)
For those new to Email! You'll be able to keep in touch with family and friends far away or around the corner. Learn to exchange information, receive e-magazines, keep and manage an email address book, send pictures and more!
Introduction to Excel: (Pre-requisite Level 2 or equivalent.)
You'll be amazed at how useful this spreadsheet program can be! Use it for making lists, budgets, paying bills and banking. Participants will learn how to create, edit and format Excel spreadsheets, using formulas and other features of this program.
Microsoft Word: (Pre-requisite Level 3 or equivalent.)
If you understand the word-processing basics in Level 1, 2 and 3 and would like to advance your understanding of Microsoft Word – then this course is for you! After a review of the basics, we will create columns, tables, mailing labels, letterhead and more!
Windows XP or Windows Vista: (Pre-requisite Level 2.)
Windows XP and Windows Vista are the latest operating systems that so many of us use, but don't really know how to use all the facets and features of the program. There are so many pieces that we've never even heard of! In this course learn how to use this software to its fullest capacity!
